Babasaheb Purandare No more

In our school days ( 70’s )  : many of us may have attended  series of lectures of   बाबासाहेब पुरंदरे (व्याख्यान माला)  : it would last for one week ; and he came every six months . Babasaheb would start sharp at 9pm  and entire ground be filled with people . He would end at the stroke of midnight and all this while standing on the stage  .There would be entry tickets with sitting and  standing audience like any rock concert . 
His first two sessions were at the Kala Mandir Maidan ( there was no theatre by then ) and last one was Chetna College ( then non existed  !) 

This was before an era of TV / Net 
And thousands of people - young and old - be captivated( मंत्रमुग्ध)  by his ability to create मराठेशाही , मुग़लशाही , आदिलशाही ....

I am yet to see any orator who could make people spellbound over three hours non stop over a week .. Those who witnessed this , can vouch for his profound knowledge , speech delivery and art of story telling ... when I see his You Tube talk  , I do not get same adrenaline as I got when I watched him live ... (In some way, he made me take Mughal History in SSC )

He is undoubtedly one person who made Marathi speaking / Maharashtrians proud of the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj .

When Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzal Khan , huge fireworks went up and one of the spark fell on Aai’s hand ... she may still be carrying the mark of this event .

Madhav Julian and Indiver -प्रेमस्वरुप आई and Zindgi Ka Safar

When I hear this poetry of Madhav Julian sung by Lata - my eyeballs swell with a blob - as the poem reaches mid way. A fabulous rendition that seems to have bled through damaged heart of this man. Tears don’t come that easily to me. That prerogative belong to Rajesh Khanna in Hindi movies of Anand Amar Prem and Dharmendra in Satyakam . In this poem too tears don’t come because I miss my mother or think of her from a distant land. This poem resurrects a character who has raised in orphanage and became successful to get all the comforts and accolades that a man can strive for. Yet he has remained empty in his heart without the existence of his mother। He doesnt remember her face as she has left long before she made any imprint on his life.
