Actor MacMohan passed away.

A face that appeared in many Hindi movies only for minutes but his character lasted far longer than his movie name . He had squeamish feminine face and frail physical frame. He looked to me like a younger brother of Hussein - an Indian but now Qatari national painter. It's nice of Amitabh Bacchan to write about his fellow actor who shared only few frames with him but put sizable meat on Amitabh's charactor . I remember his standing with me in an elevator of Savera hotel in Chennai . His wiry body and bearded face is still fresh in memory as much as his role of antique shop owner in movie Mazboor .

Hindi Geetmala - A treasure house for Hindi Music Lovers

This is amazing work of compiling and cataloging Hindi songs with lyrics and actual video clips from the film!! One can sift and sort from singers/musicians/lyricists.movie /actor/category. I only do hope music companies don't come and put a ban on it citing violation of their rights.

Bhumika - movie by Shyam Benegal

A good movie and a good scotch both briskly transport you to another plane of thoughts and brings back at a speed of ' slow flyer ' leaving behind a refreshing outlook of ' the world around you' that stays over a long time. Yesterday, I watched 'Bhumika' - a movie that I had read, heard and talked about but not seen. Few questions that immediately posed and stirred my mind ' Does an Indian actress go through the same journey as that of Usha ? '. Is that the reason why every established Bollywood movie star though put all his financial and social might in launching his son as a movie hero, is not keen for his daughter to be a movie heroin? Examples of Sunil Dutt, Amitabh Bacchan, Rajendra Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Jeetendra, Firoz Khan, Sanjay Khan come to my mind. On the larger canvas, 'Bhumika' also made me squirm of the feeling that being a woman is to some degree 'less advantaged' and ' less privileged' gender compared to a man. State...

Title musical tracks of Hindi Movies

I am enjoying the luxury of working from home. Eat, Work and Sleep all from the comforts of bed and sofa. It also gives me time to scribble on my blog. Y'day was Salil Da's B'day . I learnt it only by late evening and had a chance to rummage through two good websites on him. Tribute to Salil Da has some selected Bengali Songs. The world of Salil Choudhary tells us more about him as a person and his political & social leanings beyond the music. Some years ago, I had interacted with his daughter on RYZE . I believe she is a singer too. I have a CD on title tracks of James Bond movies. Instrument, orchestration and digital recording has terrific impact. It is amazing to hear the track without any distraction of visual or a storyline. I started searching for mp3 clips of some of the musicals tracks on Hindi music. As I delved deeper more on to various music sites, I came across many as the hours ticked by. Unfortunately, I couldn't lay my surfing fingers on my f...

Achanak - 1973 movie by Gulzar Saab

I remember, 'Achanak' came around the same time as Bobby . Though Bobby was a run away success, 'Achanak' held its fort in Gemini - a little theater compared to its neighbor Galaxy in Bandra. It perhaps could be due to spill over of Bobby house full signs. But equally true was the fact that many grown ups did take fancy for 'Achanak'. Watching it in later years ( It was A movie) was a thrill of adulthood. For me, this movie was a sleek, swift and bold movie packaged in small yet elegant manner. It was in many ways a breaking mold of 70's that would have 'hero' as embodiment of virtues, theme that promoted ethical values and entertainment meant having songs that people would rhyme as they come out of theater . I think, Gulzar showed courage in picking up a bold story and presenting in a manner devoid of songs and emotional tears. There are many such movies in Hollywood but for Hindi movie industry , perhaps it was one of such initial attempts that...

Three movies in a day

What does one do, when medicines that were supposed to alleviate your physical pain cause further damage? One can either go back to medical specialist and ask him to alter the course of the treatment or one detach from medical intervention and let body find its rhythm naturally. I chose later option when a treatment for fever, throat infection led to persistent cough and collapse of voice box. Over the weekend, I chose two therapies. First, lot of rest and second, drink plenty of warm water. Restless mind even with rest often turns to laptop. I started with Hindi movie Ghazani on Saturday and finished By Sunday morning. This was followed by later part of Billu Barber and then Maqbool that stretched up to the late night. Domination of character ‘Mian’ was too strong to leave my nightmarish mind disturbed by acute cough attacks emanating from tiniest of bronchi. With natural treatment heading nowhere, I will have no option but to go back to the doctor. These days, various Internet sites ...
