Decision to choose is tough when you have abundance of options in front of you . I often realise this while choosing a prospective employee and can also imagine the predicament of selectors when they choose players to represent for national team . 


HBR article by Nigel Nicholson “How Hardwired Is Human Behavior?” (https://hbr.org/1998/07/how-hardwired-is-human-behavior) discusses basic instincts of decision making process of human being preserved from Stone Age .


How do I choose which movie/ drama / book  to choose from plethora of options available on Netflix / Hotstar / Amazon / National Library Board of Singapore or even TV channels ?  One Stone Age factor than can be employed is “prodigious capabilities for sorting and classifying information “ . For movie , it’s often ‘established actor’ or ‘subject theme’ or my familiarity and comfort level with the culture / geography of location .

Tom Hanks and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia made me chose this movie . Those who visited Saudi and did business can easily connect with incidences that are depicted in this movie . Hypocrisy, Inefficiency , human tendency to rebel with established authority while being fearful of the strong law are the hallmarks of Saudi Culture . Watching Vikram Gokhale’ interview with Marathi Theater stalwarts  on ‘ Doosari Baju : दूसरी बाजु ‘ made  me realise the subtle nuances of entertaining  side of  creative depiction . Most movies these days cleverly use this technique to differentiate their movie from being  documentary. They do  this by exaggerating the  subject to an extent that it appears ludicrous and  do not upset or anger people who could be part of milieu of the settings . 


Netflix also gave a platform for many artists to become globally recognized . Sarita Choudhary is one such person . She may not  have feminine meat for Bollywood type celluloid but has enough intellectual substance that shines her character beyond her looks .


I would definitely tell  about this movie to those who are associated with Saud but be cautious to do if he is a Muslim person albeit with an exception of Mr Khan or his likes who are true secular yet fiercely Islamic in their values .

Madhav Julian and Indiver -प्रेमस्वरुप आई and Zindgi Ka Safar

When I hear this poetry of Madhav Julian sung by Lata - my eyeballs swell with a blob - as the poem reaches mid way. A fabulous rendition that seems to have bled through damaged heart of this man. Tears don’t come that easily to me. That prerogative belong to Rajesh Khanna in Hindi movies of Anand Amar Prem and Dharmendra in Satyakam . In this poem too tears don’t come because I miss my mother or think of her from a distant land. This poem resurrects a character who has raised in orphanage and became successful to get all the comforts and accolades that a man can strive for. Yet he has remained empty in his heart without the existence of his mother। He doesnt remember her face as she has left long before she made any imprint on his life. Today is my mother’s birthday and I thought it would be appropriate to write about this poem.
