American sickness and Health care spending
“ An American Sickness “ . A Good book to open the eyes behind the murky affairs of US health care and many lessons for Indians engaged in Healthcare to stay away from the evils .
Singapore spend 4.9% of its GDP and is ranked 6th in the World quality of Health Care performance index while US spend 17% and is ranked 37th .
India is among the countries having the lowest public healthcare budget in the world, with the public healthcare system in the country merely getting 1.26% of the total GDP. This year Budget stepped healthcare expenditure from 1.2% to 2.5% of GDP. But a far cry from where India should be . We are ranked 145th .
Good beginning is made through Price Cap of Essential Medical Devices , Push towards Generic Medicine and PPP projects but we are yet to overcome to get riddance of MRP , Insist on Cost transparency in private Sector and make public health care accountable for high and unnecessary procurement cost and non functional equipments.
